Blogging Tips

I’ve read a lot of blogs over the years and the ones that most capture my interest are the ones where the author talks about themselves and the characters in their life. If I wanted to read about religion, I could pick up a Bible. If I wanted to hear about politics, then I would watch CNN or Fox News. I want to read about YOU. Your life. I want to get to know you and develop a rapport with you. I want to be there with you when you have a bad day or a good day. Your life is important to me.

My most favorite blog would be considered mundane by most, but she writes details about her life. From her trials and tribulations with pet care, to what is going on in her job and with graduate school. I get to share with her her days. It makes me want to befriend her and become a part of her life. I am there when she can’t sleep and I am also there when she starts back work in the Fall. I feel like she is a true friend.

Very few blogs I have read over the years use dialogue and I have always wondered about this. It makes for a much more interesting and lively blog as you and your characters in your life discuss things – bringing you into the conversation. It is also wonderful as a creative writing outlet and for improving your writing skills. The most popular blogs all use dialogue in their posts.

Blogging can also be viral in nature. As more and more people begin to read, then they link to you and tell their blogging friends. Commenting on other blogs is also important. Some of my most ardent readers and frequent commenters on my blog found me when I commented on theirs.

It is also important to write often if not everyday. I will quickly lose interest in a blog that only writes sporadically. My time is important and I am investing it into your life. Write for me and I will be there.
