Do you think he lives in your neighborhood or is he a trucker taking a short cut?

Andrew Replies…

Summer, he definitely lives in the neighborhood. He has some kind of fly-by-night freight service. Sometimes he will be in a big rig, and other times in will be in a large Penske rental truck like a U-Haul. The Penske truck is usually large enough to take out my cable drop as well.

I Feel Like a One Legged Man at an Ass Kicking Contest…

Don’t you have other internets you could get? We have AT&T, directv, spectrum, wow and dish available to us. I have AT&T and they just ran fiber optic cables in my area so I’m hooked up to that now. Suppose to be better and faster.

Andrew Replies…

Glittermom, we have two main choices of internet in town and that is WOW! and Charter’s Spectrum. The fastest speed Spectrum offers is 100 Mbps. I am using WOW!’s 1000 Mbps service or Gigabit service. So you can see my conundrum. I want the speed, but it seems to be coming at a price. I would love to have fiber optic internet here as it is fast and reliable as all get out.

As far as Dish and DirectTV are concerned, they are alternatives, but if my memory serves me correctly, the upstream with those services is still old 56k dialup and latency reigns supreme with above 100ms pings.

As soon as dad gets finished eating his breakfast, him and I are riding back out to the WOW! office nearby. Dad is hoping his favorite receptionist and old customer is working today.

Did your mom have a recipe book where she wrote down her special recipes? My mom had one and I like to look through it and remember things she made that I had forgotten. She wrote in it long ago before there were ball point pens. We just had fountain pens. So her recipes are mostly written in pencil. Which after so long are fading.

Andrew replies…

Glittermom, no she didn’t sadly. I know many of her recipes by heart like her tangy chicken and sour cream and mushroom chicken. Those were always crowd pleasers when I was growing up. A lot of her recipes came out of Nadine Knowles’ cookbook Don't Forget the Parsley.  Search for it on the web and you may find a copy. It was printed in 1976. Nadine was a true Southern lady and she cooked Southern food.

Is your dad over the moon with the new royal baby?

Andrew Replies…

Summer, he has watched about every news clip he could find on YouTube and AppleTV. He especially loves the video of Prince Harry casually walking out to announce the new baby to the press. He has watched that over and over like a man possessed.

Did anyone move into the house next door yet?

Andrew Replies…

No, but they manicured the lawn and shrubs this week. It makes me think that someone might be moving in soon. I am hoping for a young couple with kids to really liven things up around here. It will take Maggie a few weeks to get used to them, though. There might be some aggravating barking going on at first I fear.

The pond? Where’s the pond?

Andrew Replies…

Glittermom, we have a several acre pond on some land we own in Waverly, Alabama (God’s country). Dad keeps saying he is going to build a cabin by the pond and get electricity connected which would be neat to stay out there some time overnight. Dad restocked the pond with bream (sunfish), catfish, and bass quite a few years ago and now it is just teeming with fish and is a good fishing hole.

Is the trazodone replacing another med. or added to your current meds? Do you suffer from depression? That seems to be what it’s prescribed for.

Andrew Replies…

Glittermom, I was having lots of anxiety and restlessness at night. I called it the stir crazies. My doctor said Trazodone also helped with anxiety and could help me with rest so we tried it. It just makes me really sleepy at the moment. It was added to my current meds. I take it about an hour before I am ready to go to sleep.

Which house is bigger? I can’t wait to see the new house and surrounding land, is the river close to the house? I have always wanted to live by the water. I live close to Lake Erie but not close enough to see it. :(

Andrew Replies…

The river house is a smaller house, Glittermom. If you walk out on the back deck, the river is just a few feet away.

How are Maggie and the cat getting along? Seems like Maggie played a late April fool's prank on you...

Minny, they have an uneasy truce at the moment. I can’t pet Wheezy with Maggie in the room or she gets torn up with jealously. It can be quite comical as Maggie positions herself between me and the cat which sends Wheezy running. Yes, it seems Maggie got my goat so to speak – a late April fool’s joke played on me.

You know, I had been concerned with the amount of hours you were working. And paid or not, you were working. Very rarely does a volunteer work THAT many hours. Maybe you did take on too much. You had intended on a nice volunteer job a couple of days a week maybe half a day. What you got was 40+ hours a week. Plus a volunteer almost never has a key and to be asked to "open the shop", is over the top.
If you go back, you should (in writing) map out what a Volunteer's Job really is. In CA, Volunteers aren't allowed to clean cages, for instance. You could help Miss Barbara get a handle on what a volunteer is and what they should do. This would be helpful for future volunteers too.
And, oh yeah, you got rid of Tut; even if you never volunteer again, you got rid of Tut. (What happened to her man, Richard?)

Andrew Replies…

Sharyn, I agree. Mrs. Barbara was asking too much of me and it is a hard and dirty job. Also, it is a long drive spanning three cities and Old Fuss and Feathers was having to pay for the gas to and fro not even factoring in the wear and tear on my car. For some reason, he insists on paying for my gas. I will keep your thoughts in mind when they hire someone new to do my job and when I decide what to do about my volunteering capacity. I think I am going to stay on volunteering and see how things go. That would thrill Tracy to death.  Just in a limited capacity.

RichardTut and Richard are still together. Richard lives off of Tut’s disability and plays his PlayStation 3 games all the time. He recently turned 49. All he does is obsess over Star Trek and Star Wars. I didn’t write about this for fear of repercussion, but I took him and Tut to the pawn shop a few weeks ago. He pawned two PS3 Batman games for $10 and bought tobacco with the money. They said they only wanted to go to the pawn shop, but added on an extra trip all the way down to West Point and the SunCo gas station to buy Tobacco. What a mess! I vowed never to do that again!!!

I think you going to college is a wonderful idea. It will be stimulating for your intellect. You are great with electronics. Does a local school have training for certification in something along those lines? You may not need to learn anything more along those lines. It makes me wonder if you could have your own business repairing people's electronics? There is nothing wrong with a degree in literature, but is there some way of using it to support yourself? Maybe that is not even a consideration.

Andrew Replies…

sears toolsRita, I have a lot of really neat ideas bouncing around in my head at the moment. This morning I was looking at tool sets from Sears. Rachel got all my many tools in the divorce years ago. You have to have a set of tools to take the car mechanics course at my local community college. I have $550 dollars to spend for Christmas and instead of purchasing a $499 video card for my computer as planned. I could purchase a really nice tool set and tool chest from Sears and continue my dream of becoming a car and truck mechanic. It is a dream I have held for a long time. My community college offers a full course in car mechanics with ASE certification. I don’t think they offer a course in electronics, but with today’s cars, electronics will come into play.

Do you find that your habit of doing things late affects your mental curiosities? After about 3pm, my anxiety really sets in and I'm a home body! Add night blindness and a new fear of driving (Since that last lady tried to kill us) and there's no going out for me!

Andrew Replies…

Sharyn, tell me about it. YES! Yes, it does affect my mental curiosities as you put it. I would fare far better doing this all around lunch about the time I take my main dosage of medications. I can’t see to drive well after dark either. Dad insists on going so late so he won’t get “caught” by people he knows and get entangled in lengthy conversations as is often the case when he goes in the day. It must be a small town thing. “Why don’t you talk while I shop,” is what I want to tell him. “Then you can use me as an excuse that you’ve gotta go when I show back up with a cart of groceries ready to check out.”

Didn’t your dad say a while ago that he was selling that house?

Andrew Replies…

He wants to live in the river house, but the grandkids love the big house so he has a dilemma on his hands. He says he can’t afford to keep both of them up. I told him this morning he was going to have to get it repainted before someone will buy it – the manor on the hill. He didn’t like to hear that, but the house is painted in such an odd and quite frankly an ugly color. What possessed him to do that I do not know. It is like an orange baby diarrhea color.

There’s more important things then being that upset over a football game. Was your father into football when you were growing up too?

Andrew Replies…

Glittermom, him and my brother have always been fanatical about Auburn football. Somehow it seems I just didn’t get that gene. My grandfather was the same way.

I have a Honda CR-V I don’t think I could get use to sitting down so low in reg. car. Ive been driving suvs for a long time..I like sitting up a little higher. Seems less dangerous. At least your new car will be more reliable. Did your father give your car to his computer genius at work? (That was meant to be sarcastic). Your the computer genius.

Andrew Replies…

CR-Vs are great cars. Dad’s CR-V has 275,000 miles on it and it just keeps going and going. I miss that about my CR-V as well – sitting up high and not having to climb out of it when I get somewhere. I wonder now how my mother ever got in that car and out again it is so low.

Yes, Matt got my car. I saw it this morning when I arrived at the pharmacy. He always gushes to me how nice that car is compared to his old 1991 Nissan Pathfinder. I wanted to keep my CR-V to save putting miles on my new car – mom’s car. My father does the same with his CR-V to keep from putting miles on his BMW X5. Dad said it would be too expensive for me to own two cars, though. A decision I deeply regret. It wouldn’t have been that expensive.

Pipe Tobacco…

Thank you for caring. Still no news about George. You’ll be the first to know on here when I find out something.

I know you play and play well from past posts but I can't remember do you have a piano or keyboard?
What brought on the learn a hymn thing with your Dad?
I love Christmas hymns hope you post a video or two on here of you playing some

Andrew Replies…

Charlie gave me a nice upright piano and you can see it below with that picture of my cruiser bike. Dad has been urging me to start taking piano lessons again and we thought this would be a prelude to that – get the rust out so to speak. I will be sure to post a video as soon as I am proficient with some hymns.

I don't get why the new wheels? I mean what's the point in them(other than looks)? I can see the mountain bike ( exercise, fun, and maybe even transportation in an emergency) I can see the appeal of the aquarium they are fun to set up and then relaxing. and of course the computer parts I understand because of your joy in using them and improving your computers. Of course at the end of the day get what you want I know I get and do things others don't understand... :)

August 5, 2018 at 11:05 AM

Andrew Replies…

Minny, the wheels are strictly for aesthetic reasons. I think it is a guy thing. They would just make the car look sportier and would give my car a smoother ride as well as they are so light. Dad probably won’t let me get them fearing it may screw up the car so it may be a moot point anyways. I will most likely get computer parts if my father can remember to order them. I just like to dream! SmileOpen-mouthed smile

That’s odd..my cable box doesn’t have an off switch. Everything is done with the remote

July 29, 2018 at 11:07 AM

Andrew Replies…

I think Charlie’s and dad’s cable box woes are mainly caused by them sitting on the floor under the television. You have to get the remote at the right angle to turn them on or stand up and move a few feet away from them. I assure you I am not making this stuff up which I think was implied (or it could be my paranoid nature tonight). I can think of a thousand more interesting blog posts to conjure up instead of a post about Charlie’s cable box. Like a tantalizing tryst with Laura would be far more interesting blog fodder.

Sometime it’s hard to get a post on your blog. You get pictures to click on all with cars or street signs, etc. pictures are hard to see. Doesn’t always ask for that. It’s annoying.

Andrew Replies…

Glittermom, I have no control of that. Those are Blogger’s doings to fight spam. Sorry, I know it is aggravating.
