Do you still take Maggie on her walks? Remember how she looked forward to them? I miss routines and am having a really hard time right now finding things to fill my days. When you aren't blogging, waiting for dad, or sleeping; what the heck do you do?

Andrew Replies…

I have the same feeling too sometimes so you are not alone. Sometimes, I think there is no purpose to life. I would probably feel differently if I had a wife and kids to support, feed, and send to school. I’d have to leave them some sort of legacy.

Maggie and I will walk around the block once or twice a week depending on my mood. Maggie still goes bananas every time I get the leash and harness out of the closet.

I have a pretty regimented life. My big morning task is to cook Maggie and I a big, hot, stomach filling breakfast. Then I usually get a long shower. Then comes online life, computer gaming, and music time. I listen to hours of music everyday while I am on the computer. I will admit that sitting in front of the computer so much gets tiresome and old, though.

Lately, on dad’s days off, I go over about 1 PM and watch that blowhard Dr. Phil with him. He will fix us a sandwich or something similar to eat. I drive home and take a one to two hour nap in the afternoon then I get up and have more music, gaming, and computer time.

By night fall, I am worn out most nights with the effects of my heavy hitting medications from lunch starting to wane and wear off. I will feel just about exhausted. I goof off some on the computer and then see what show is on PBS that night. I play with my new tablet computer while I watch a show on Public Broadcasting. I am a sucker for a good British drama on PBS. Then I usually hit the bed around eleven.

Isn't your dad gay?
I could have sworn you said he's
gay. No?

Andrew Replies…

Nothing is for certain, Jane. Bisexual could be an option. My ex-wife swore he was gay. My mother said for years that he and Charlie were gay lovers as they spent so much time together. She’d say it when she got really mad at my father. I always had my doubts as well. These later years, I have come to believe he is heterosexual just from the way he admires women when we are out and about. He has also expounded upon the sexual relationship he had with my mother in moments of candidness.

A little at a time is the best way to do things. When my husband died I made up my mind to do at least two things a day, and one of them is to get up, washed and dressed. Then anything else I do is progress. I find one thing leads to another and if I don't finish everything I want to do that day...so what? It will still be there tomorrow. You'll be surprised just how much can be done a little at a time, and you don't beat yourself up over what doesn't get done.

Sharon, thank you for this comment yesterday. It really bolsters what I am trying to do. I, too, have to make myself get cleaned up in the morning with a shower and shave. Also clean clothes even though I probably won’t get any visitors. I try not to stay in my pajamas all day. The rest is the icing on the cake. Thank you once again. You’ve been a good friend.

Are you cool as a cucumber?

Andrew Replies…

Yes, that is a very, very good way to put it. I slept like a baby last night at 72 degrees. No sweaty sheets. No obnoxiously loud blowing box fans. Just the quiet hiss of the air conditioner.  I got up one time during the night to use the bathroom and turned it down to 70 degrees just for the hell of it.

The Magster is enjoying it immensely as well. I didn’t realize it, but keeping the house open all the time made her feel insecure as she felt the need to “police” the house for interlopers and animals. She has slept since yesterday afternoon and is still on the couch sleeping. She’s catching up on some well deserved rest. She’ll be in here about lunch for our regularly scheduled back scratch, though. She’s going to get a can of Vienna sausages in a moment as well. As am I.

Glad you got your air fixed. I am in my own little hell here. Mother's Day is so hard on me. But I needed to connect with someone so I thought of you. It will be ok I'm sure. I hate Hallmark making up stupid holidays that cost money and make those of us without kids, feel like crap. I'm sure you have your favorite too. Plus I miss the women I used to wish Happy Mother's Day to and Miss Martha was certainly one!

Andrew Replies…

I understand completely when it comes to Father’s Day. I’m too old to have children now. Let’s say you can be my surrogate mom so Happy Mother’s Day to you Mom. I missed my mother today and it was hard on me as well. It is hard to believe she is gone. She went so suddenly. One moment she was here and the next hour she was gone. Hang in there. Time heals wounds.

Get your air conditioner. Yet? I know how your dad procrastinates. Looks like it’s pretty hot down there. If gets too bad tell your dad you’ll come over his house and stay if too hot.

Andrew replies…

Glittermom, I could always set up my tent in his den and “camp out”. LOL It would drive him crazy. Actually, it has been really cool at night. I cool the house down with a fan overnight and it stays mostly cool all day if I don’t open up the house which is well insulated. Charlie had insulation blown into all the walls before I moved in. I woke up downright cold this morning. No ETA on the air conditioner, though.

Oh, btw, I took a little walk around your archives. Back to 2008. The Homeless Guy is no longer blogging but is now an artist in San Diego. Is George still in jail? What was his original offense? Miss Florine is gone but what about Helen? Isn't the lawn guy JT related to her somehow? Did you ever reconnect with Rosa? And Clara? Isn't it funny how they are all gone now. Well, now I'm sad.....

Andrew Replies…

The homeless guy will never be able to support himself as an artist I believe. His talents lie in writing and activism. George is currently in Atmore State Penitentiary on the Alabama/Florida line. I ran into his cousin awhile back in the Piggly Wiggly and Monte filled me in. In an odd twist of fate, my cousin Blake is also in jail at Atmore at this moment. George’s original offense was reckless driving, drunken driving, and trying to elude the police. Dad let Helen go as he no longer needed her when my mother passed away. JW is not related to Helen. Rosa and I talk on the phone occasionally. She will get lonely and call me. The last thing I heard about Clara is she is living in a halfway house for severe recovering alcoholics in Columbus, Georgia.

When did you get your 1st computer?

Andrew Replies…

I didn’t start using computers until I was in my early thirties working in the Forestry Dept. at Auburn University. The first computer I had was one I built from spare parts laying around in the Forestry Dept. lab. I had the director’s approval as the parts were just going to waste. I’d say I was about 30 to 31 years old at the time.

Is Charlie ever home long enough to watch tv?

Andrew Replies…

You literally made me laugh out loud with this question. Charlie only watches one TV channel and that is Home and Garden Television and I bet he can’t sit still through a single show or he will feel the need to get up and do something constructive with himself. He is constantly on the go.

You got some good looking plates from her..and lots of vegetables! Lot better then those frozen meals. Does your father cook everyday for himself?

Andrew Replies...

Glittermom, I think he mainly eats sandwiches. He cooked breakfast for supper last night I do know because he gave me some yeast rolls and lots of sausages to carry home with me. He keeps saying he is going to start cooking two nights a week to give me and him some homecooked meals to eat. I welcome our vegetable beef soup cooking overlords! lol

Hi Andrew. What would make my laptop fan run when I am on the internet? It doesn't do it when it's idle, just when I go onto the internet. I ran a scan and found no issues.

Andrew Replies...

Summer, it usually just means the CPU or processor is running a little warm processing data while you are browsing and the fan comes on to cool it down. At idle, the processor is idle as well and doesn't need to be cooled.

Back at Kroger’s?

Andrew Replies...

The Pig just didn't stay open late enough for us. By the time dad gets home from work, changes clothes, and eats some supper it can be nine or nine thirty before we leave to go grocery shopping. He insists on shopping Monday nights for some reason. I hated always hitting the Pig with a big purchase just before they were going to close. Krogers stays open until 1 AM. I miss the Piggly Wiggly. I really enjoyed shopping there. Mrs. Camille treated us like royalty.

Well that makes sense..didn’t your father say he was going to retire soon?

Andrew Replies...

He's on the gradual retirement plan. They keep cutting his hours over time. Right now he only works 15 hours a week. He was working 20 hours. He loves the current arrangement of working a half day Monday and all day Tuesday.

Why did your dad want you to change the day of injection? Just curious.

Andrew Replies...

Glittermom, he is off on Thursdays and works all day on Tuesdays. It would just simplify things as far as acquiring my actual injection package is concerned. It is on the way to Kamath Medical as well -- just down the street to be exact. I wouldn't have to make an extra trip to my father's house to deliver the next appointment card to boot. I could just drop it off at the pharmacy and head home without delay.

Hey Bud, I have not deserted you again! You know me, I bounce from personality to personality. I am trying to stay focused. At one time, there was you, the homeless guy, and a few others of us in constant contact. Then, was it Fred? I just lost track of everyone. And I expected them to stay put till I got back. Well, a LOT left facebook for whatever reason. The amount of folk I just can't locate is amazing! I'm glad you got a tablet. Is that one any better than the Kindle Fire HD?

Andrew Replies...

I've heard the Kindle Fire HD is a good tablet. I haven't looked at its specifications, though, so I can't tell you if my tablet is any better. I miss you when you disappear so stick around some. We've all been through a lot together and need to stick together.

Fred got a good paying job, got off the streets, and started to rent a room at someone's house. He was one of the few success stories. Unfortunately, we never heard from him again once he got off the streets. There was no follow up.

Just dont answer the door, they will go away ..they’re not bad peoples.

Andrew Replies...

I know they're not bad people. They are just kids doing what they are programmed to do, but they are a nuisance. They get Maggie's knickers in a twist and my social anxiety and blood pressure skyrockets for about 30 minutes. I don't want to hear about their founding father and prophet, Joseph Smith.

I found 2 different recipes, one made with cream of mushroom soup, one made with beef broth. Is either what your dad uses?
Andrew Replies...   GIttermom, I think dad uses Campbell's condensed chicken and rice soup in his recipe and he lets it simmer a long time so the pork chops get fork tender.

How is horsefly adapting to his new home. Sometimes that can be traumatic.

Andrew Replied...

Glittermom, you were astute to ask and we have all worried about that. Charlie has taken painstaking care to make his new room look just like his old room including the color. There are dozens and dozens of stuffed dolls and countless shaving cream cans all put in their places. Charlie chuckled and said it took Horsefly hours to arrange them to his liking. So far, Horsefly has settled in nicely and hasn't pitched a temper tantrum about it. Horsefly can be a spitfire just like his dad. Charlie has also taken care not to mess up his normal routines like the bowling alley and his biscuit every morning.

When’s your dad retiring ? Is he still talking of moving to the River house. I would love to see a picture of that house.

Andrew Replies...

Dad is gradually moving into retirement. He says he can't continue to live his current lifestyle without working, though. Yes, he is talking about moving into the river house and selling the manor. I will have to get a video or pictures of the river house up on the blog soon.
