Scouting Around

I went and pitched one of my cheap $30 Wal-Mart tents over at my urban campsite this morning. Inside, I put an old pillow and blanket along with some magazines and bottled water to make it look well used recently. I want to see how long it will take before someone messes with it. It is a pretty stealthy spot, but I do know I spent a lot of time down there as a child. I wonder if children even explore like I did in this age of video games and organized sports.

I then went on a big shopping spree down at my father's pharmacy for things such as washing powders, dishwasher detergent, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, and some various canned goods. I tried to write a check, but dad wouldn't have anything to do with it. He told me to save my money and that the store would cover sundries for me from now on.

My relationship with my father has been really great lately with him giving me a lot of freedom since the move. Only one minor perturbing incident has occurred when yesterday, while Rosa and me were over at her house, someone used their key to open my house to leave some cokes and a bag of hamburgers on my kitchen counter. I think it was Charlie so he must have an extra key to my house. I just feel uncomfortable with a bunch of people having free access to my home.

I don't blame you for feeling uncomfortable with not knowing who has access to your home. While I have a few people that have access to my house, I know when/if they are coming and what they are doing.

Congrats on your move....sounds like you are doing well.

Congratulations to the new home! Hope you'll be lucky there.

I am curious about this urban adventure.

To my frontdoor exist three keys and I know exactly where they are. Otherwise I would have to install something ...

Ouch... Your space is your space. No one should be invading it :(

Sir:

While it is disconcerting to have someone have that sort of access, it is good that it is a friend.

Hey, that's cool that your dad is going to cover that kind of stuff for you at the pharmacy. Cleaning supplies & such are the things that really add up on your grocery bill.

I like your experiment, and I would bet that if anyone touches your stuff, it won't be a kid. Let us know what happens.

Hope you're getting a camera soon, I miss your photographs.

Happy day,
fiwa

it's wonderful to hear that not only have you already hit it off with a new neighbor, but things are going so well with your dad.
i hope you have a great time camping.

I think that it's one thing to have your parents having access to your home, even though that's tough. But to have someone else have a key, that's unnerving. This is something that you need to nip in the bud now. Your dad will understand, after all, he wouldn't want to be responsible for you having a manic episode due to his hand happily extending keys to the friendly neighborhood spiderman, right?
Always,
Crusty~

Change yor locks or ad one only you have the key too, like a deadbold. That way you can feel secure when you want and allow others access if you choose. I'm glad your dad is relaxing a little. I know as a parent Andrew, that it's hard to let go. That being said it makes us happy for our children to be successful on their own. The more you succeed, the more your dad will relax and allow you your freedom. That has been a lesson I have learned a lot about in the last year and a half. That doesn't mean though that every once in a while I don't wake up in the middle of the night with that stomach wrenching fear that something awful will happen to my daughter. I hate that feeling...

Gawd I'm grumpy tonight.

Just put a deadbolt on and keep the keys. Your father is being real nice. Life seems to be good for you lately. I am glad.

I used to explore when I was a kid, too. I just can't allow my kids the same freedoms. It's not safe for them any more. I mourn the fact that they can't hop on a bike and go where ever they'd like for hours on end like my friends and I used to do. It's a sad scary world now.

I manage an apartment complex and I can verify that kids still explore in this age of technology run amok. I smile when I see the kids roaming the complex, of course I do something altogether different when I have to clean up the messes their play leaves or have to tell them for the umpteenth time that the power company's transformer box is not a good place for a fort. =)

I look forward to hearing about your camping.

I hope your urban camping trip will be safe. That's what I worry about for you. I like that you're experimenting with the Wal-Mart tent.

Well, I am sure that Charlie just meant well. I believe you are good enough friends to ask him about the key. If he doesn't want to comply, kindly tell him you will be changing the locks. I am sure it won't have to go there.

Can't wait to hear about your camping trip. I loved when you took them last summer.

Guess what? We have been reading each other's blog for a little over a year now. Can you believe it? Time flys when you are having fun!
