300

I woke up this morning and raised up in my bed.  "300 days!" I exclaimed.  Maggie lay next to me.  "300 days sobriety!  Maggins!" I exclaimed to her.  She didn't look too impressed.  She rolled over and went back to licking her paws.

Today is going to be a day of AA meetings in celebration.  I feel there is no more fitting way to spend my day.  This will also mean using lots of gas so I will have to go cajole mom into filling up my car.  Her hair appointment isn't till 3 o'clock.  I just have to catch her in the right mood.

I still have weaknesses.  My parents have had a case of beer in their fridge for weeks now.  Every time I go over, my scheming little brain goes into overdrive trying to figure out a way to drink a beer.  Hey, I am only being honest.   I am usually chaperoned anytime I go downstairs to that fridge.  LOL!

I've been reading, but my laptop has been extremely slow, too slow to make comments before it times out. :-(

congratulations to you. I have been sober since October 5, 2007. I don't struggle so much because it wasn't as much "a necessary to have" addiction as "a don't know when to stop once started" addiction. I don't attend meetings and was able to stop it myself without any relapse. I just don't have the desire to drink anymore. Now if I could just quit cigarettes but they are "a necessary to have" addiction. My nervous system couldn't handle quitting everything.

My dear friend. I am SO proud of you. I've been reading you almost a year now and I remember how hard it was for you in the beginning. You have come so far and done so well. 300 days is a huge accomplishment!! And you're so close to a year! What do you think of throwing yourself a coca cola loaded party as celebration for your year?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I'm so excited for your new life.

That's awesome, Andrew!!

It will get easier and easier to resist with time ... but definitely guard against apathy. You can avoid that by continuing to celebrate your successes and remembering how far you've come.

Great job!

Congratulations! I cannot imagine what it must have taken to accomplish that. And....your planning on *cajoling* your mom brought a smile to my face. My kids do that all the time.

Congrats! I know when I quit smoking years ago, the first year was the hardest. There were many things I enjoyed about it, but after I quit there were many things I found disgusting about it. I focus on that and it has worked. 23 years now since I quit. I guess your AA birthday will be in 65 days. My friend quit drinking 5 yeas ago and told me that is a day they consider your birthday (or re-birth I guess). They celebrate with cake and coffee. Hers is coming up and she will be visiting. I have to remember to get her a cake.
