To Cross The Line

Where do you cross the line?  I read a lot of blogs and have certain email friends that will disparage a certain blog I read for "always being so negative" and for "always bitching and moaning."  I also read certain blogs where the author's shit don't stink to use a crass phrase.   And we all know we have problems and crap happens in our daily lives.   Do you not write about the bad stuff and thus get an overly positive tone to your blog?  Or do you share the good with the bad and this take your readers on the full experience that is your life?  I don't know.  I am struggling with this today.  Things have been so damned good lately that I hated having to write about a bad day.  I kept thinking my readership would think "oh, not this shit again!"   It is a conundrum and feels odd.

Andrew,
You need to blog about your life. Last night in chapel, a professor whom I respect very much spoke the seniors who are graduating and talked extensively about his struggles with depression and suicide. But he kept speaking to the idea that there is hope. The one thing that I often see in your blog, whether you do it unconsiously or not, is that you have a lot of hope for your life. If you didn't, you wouldn't write like all of these things happening were a bad thing.

We all go through ups an downs in ourlives. It just so happens that the lows are lower for you and the highs are higher. I hope this does not sound harsh, but you have been given both a blessing and a curse.

I write about it all, Andrew. Good, bad, ugly. It's life. I see you doing the same thing.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm happy for you when things are going well, and sorry when they aren't. It's the ebb and flow of life. :)

I have no choice but to blog the crap with the good. Otherwise I'm not being me. Thats the truth of it.

Ups and downs are part of everyone's life, Andrew. If you only blogged the good stuff it would be unbalanced. When I read that you are having a moment of struggle I don't think bad of you, instead I send good thoughts and prayers your way that it will soon turn around again. You've done an amazing job of making some big changes in your life, you inspire me! As the saying goes, "Tough times don't last, tough people do." You are a survivor and I am proud to know you!

I think that you should blog about whatever you want, good bad or indifferent.

For me, my blog is an escape from all the stuff going on in my life. I don't feel comfortable writing about the freeloading stepdaughter or the the stepdaughter arrested for selling prescription drugs, etc etc not only because they might read it but also because I don't want to be reminded of it. So I try to stick with silly cat stuff. It's like when people go to the movies to forget about their crappy lives.

I don't especially blog to interest any readers I might have--and they're usually other cat lovers anyway. I do it to escape.

The beauty of the blog is that you can blog about whatever you want to blog about. The reader gets to choose whether or not they want to read it.
I tend to keep mine pretty upbeat because of who I've given my blog info out to. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably be more private so that I could write about it all...the good and the bad.
Live and learn, I guess.

Another idea is to do what I'm doing...another totally anonymous blog for the bad stuff

i think most people who truly care about one really want to know about the good and the bad and the sad and wonderful and the hard and good days. i think if in life in general or in blogger land if people only want to know the good then they really do not want to know who i am really....and if people also just want to share the good with me i know that they want to keep the relationship on a surface level. just some of my thoughts.
