With great trepidation, I drove the long drive to the humane society. I parked and walked inside to be greeted by a young lady,
"Can I help you?" She asked with a grin.
"I am looking to volunteer," I said, shyly averting eye contact.
"Honey, where have you been?" She said, smiling warmly and welcoming me inside. "When can you start?"
"When do you need me?" I asked.
"How 'bout we see you here at eight in the morning?" She asked. "Eight okay?"
"Sounds great to me," I said, walking out with a renewed vigor in my steps.
I heard the lady and the man who worked there talk excitedly amongst themselves about having a volunteer.
I am so excited! I haven't been this excited in years! I felt almost like I got a job! I am going to bust my butt tomorrow to give them a helping hand. Thank you to the commenter who suggested this! It is going to be so nice to have a reason to get up in the morning and to have some purpose to my days.

WTG! It does sound perfect for you and I know it can be so much easier to relate to animals than to humans sometimes (especially at 8 in the morning;-)
Have fun with it and I hope it leads to more opportunities and fulfillment.
Well done Andrew!
you should ask if you can bring maggie along
That's great! You have a love of animals so this will be perfect for you.
Awesome news!
Good Luck Andrew I know you'll do fine.
Great idea, Andrew! And good followthrough. I am very eager to hear about your experiences at the Humane Society. It's true, animals are sometimes easier to deal with than people.
Careful about bringing home extra dogs though. I have a friend who did this and that's how they ended up with 4 dogs!
you will make a lot of not only people but pets happy, may you find time to really enjoy being a volunteer^^
I am so proud that you picked animlas to help - they never judge and only love the best of us.
Well done! Well done!
P.S. Leave Maggie at home. :-)
I did not know what is a Humane society is until I read the comments.
I guess it is a sort of rescue place? Very happy for you taking the step. We will look forward of some pictures of your new friends!
Terrific! I am glad to hear it. Not only will it fill the idle time of your days, but the kind of work you will be doing will no doubt make you feel good on a daily basis. Good for you, Andrew! :o)
Amazing how quickly things can turn around, huh? It's like the shelter was just waiting for someone like you to walk in. I can see your smile right now, big and bold. I wish you well, of course, and can't wait to hear how tomorrow goes.
Great news, Andrew! I know you'll be wonderful and a great assest to their volunteer team... you have so much inside of you to give.
Waking up in the morning and having a clear, positive and productive purpose to your day is the key to a long and happy life as far as I'm concerned.
Good luck :-))
Cool! Very cool indeed.
Good for you!!
What great news! I'm so glad you took that first step. You should be proud of yourself! I know you'll make lots of new friends and be a great help to animals in need.
Very cool~
B~
Andrew,
That is awesome. I am proud that you took the step to go in and inquire about it. That alone took a lot. I hope that the feeling you have when you leave there tomorrow will only reinforce what a wonderful thing you are doing for the employees, the animals and yourself.
Awesome idea, Andrew! Being a volunteer can be very rewarding plus as you think about persuing getting a job this will look great on your resume. Employers take volunteer work as seriously as regular jobs too.
I know you will be great working with the animals. Just make sure you don't end up bringing them all home with you. LOL
Good for you, Andrew. Hope you do enjoy working there, and that it will help you keep your high spirits.
Andrew,
Taking that first step is hard...good for you. We are all thrilled for you!
Good luck,
Lena
Real pleased for you.
Yippie! the pets-to-be will love you- way to go! nothing like a happy furry face.
Way to go Andrew! I have fostered animals and volunteered with a rescue for several years now and it is very rewarding. Just keep in mind that it can be heartbreaking as well, so be ready for that end of it. When one situation gets you down, look at the big picture. The hardest thing to learn and accept is that "you can't save them all". But the attention and tenderness you're going to give those animals will mean more than we can ever really know.
You're doing great!
Good for you Andrew, glad you made thet decision & that they took you up on it.
Best of luck in your new venture. :)
Andrew--
you, quite frankly, rock.
Sounds great! Now you'll have plenty to write about!
Good for you.
I think this is just perfect for you!!!
How jealous Maggie will be when you come home smelling like cutiepie woof woofs! :)
Always,
Crusty~
