"There is something terrible wrong with my car," Mom told me as I stepped out of my house. She had just pulled out front.
"It is pulling to the right and making a terrible noise."
I walked over to check her car out and she had a massive flat tire and had been apparently driving on it for miles. The tire was shredded.
"Great!" I thought sarcastically as I proceeded to change the tire. It had begun to rain softly and soon I was soaking wet from the rain and sweat.
"Did I tear anything up?" Mom sheepishly asked as I walked back in the house, filthy.
"No," I replied. "But I need a shower."
Mom proceeded to tell me how she had to be in Auburn for the Doctor this Thursday. I volunteered to drive. I didn't feel comfortable with her driving that far by herself. We are going to eat at the Red Lobster afterwards.

I'm sorry you had to get so dirty. But that is funny, mostly because I did the same thing once.I couldn't figure out what was wrong with he car all the while I was driving on a flat.
you're such a good son for taking care of your mother as much as you do. most kids run as far away from their parents as they can until its too late. *hugs*
You should have pulled mom's car into Joyce's carport to change the tire. I'm glad she was ok. I hate car trouble.
oh dear, i hope she didn't warp the rim or something. i hear if you drive on a flat too long something gets messed up...the rim? i don't know. weell, you are a good son for helping your mom out!!
OMG! Red Slobster. I'd kill for it! I hope you enjoyed.
oohhh, I love their biscuits!! You're a good sonny that's for sure! makes me think of that christmas story when the part of "OHhhhhh fuuuuuuudddddddddgggggggeeeee" comes along.
hope all is well,
ebs
I'm so glad you are there for your mom. You're a sweet son!
It's so nice how you take care of your Mom. It's seems like she's needed you a lot lately. It's good that you can be there for her. Have fun in Auburn. :)
Andrew..... did you notice only 100 more days and you're sober a whole year?? remember how exciting it was to BE sober for 100 days?? You've really accomplished something here! yay!
Yeah, that sober counter is getting on up there. WAY TO GO! That was such a wonderful thing for you to change your Mom's tire. You are soooo good to her. She is so fortunate to have a son like you that loves and cares for her. Enjoy your day in Auburn and eat a cheese biscuit for me.
This post reminded me of my own mom, who's been gone now for 13 years. She was widowed and initially very confounded about home maintenance and car care. One of the neighbors suggested that she take a class at our local adult ed called (I kid you not) Powderpuff Mechanics. Basically, it was a basic car maintenance class, taught by a woman and designed for women who had little or no knowledge of things like flat tires, loose battery cables and the like. It helped her out A LOT. She had her share of driving on the rims too until she learned how to handle the problem. Maybe your mom could look into something like that, too?
Never a dull moment in your life Andrew AND it's the normal stuff in life that we all experience.
I love the way your Mother seems so comfortable coming to your with her trials & tribulations :) She can count on you -- isn't that just fantastic?! And Maggie gets excited to see your Mother also!
I'm SO happy you are able to have family around. Eating out sounds like fun. I'm happy for you Andrew -- it's about time!
