I suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder). The long, dark winter nights can really get me down. Charlie bought me all fluorescent bulbs for the house a few years ago to help with my utility costs. I was never happy with the light they put out. They were dark and dingy. Yesterday, I bought a dozen 200 watt regular light bulbs. You can see the difference below. I am so happy. LET THERE BE LIGHT! Let's stave off the dark.

I feel the same way. Hate those new light bulbs we are supposed to buy. Enjoy your light.
Thank you Lacey! It is nice sitting here in my computer room with a bright, warm glow about me!
I know we're supposed to be switching all out light bulbs out, but I'm slowly switching mine back to the old bulbs. You are so right, not enough light and they take forever to "warm up" to their full brightness!
Jenn, I know! I felt kind of guilty about the energy I am using, but my mental health is more important! I'll pay a little extra on my utility bill to have a warm, bright house at night! Here's to having the brightest house on the block! LOL
I hate those new light bulbs too. But... aren't they supposed to stop making the olds ones come January? My SAD will take over for sure.
Summer, I didn't know they were going to stop making the old bulbs. That saddens me. Me and you are going to be in the same boat!
Andrew - you can buy higher wattage fluorescent bulbs too.
Thanks impromptu. I didn't know that! Will look into it!
I like nice bright lights in my house too. When we have a rainy day I turn on all the lights and make my own sunshine. :-)
I think the warm glow from the old type is much better...the higher wattage new ones do give more light..but to me it is still a garing light...not warm like the old ones..i hope they dont stop making them.
I suffer from S.A.D. as well it gets so depressing in the winter months when it is so gloomy...I hope you get some snow soon to cheer you up !!!
Joy, I really hope they do not stop making the old bulbs here as well. I agree with you about the light. I was also thinking about the cost looking online. A pack of 4 incandescent bulbs costs .89 cents. A single 100 watt fluorescent bulb costs $11.99! Major difference.
Karen, you are a woman of my own heart. As you already know, I love a warm, bright looking house. I was in dark and dingy for far too long. I just didn't have the money to buy the higher wattage bulbs.
I hate to be a buzz killer, but check your light fixtures. I know that at least two of the lamps in my house say not to use anything higher than 75W.
And one ceiling fixture says 60W or lower! Lower? Might just as well be in the dark!!
Anyhoo - those 100W bulbs might be a fire hazard or something if they are in the wrong fixtures! I care too much to see any of you guys get hurt!
I know - nag, nag, nag!
Grannie
Grannie, you nag! You might just save my butt! hehe
