Au Revoir Dear Friend

Joyce had to go back to the hospital tonight. It was a short lived furlough, her being home. She was acting strangely as if she was drugged. Slow. Confused. She came over this evening and acted as if she were mired in molasses -- each movement seeming painful and retarded.

"I don't know what's wrong with me," she told me nervously, chain smoking Marlboro lights. "I am usually so hyper. I am such an active person."

I walked over to her home and looked at the medications she was taking. "Dear God," I muttered under my breath viewing all the many pill bottles. No wonder she feels drugged. She is taking enough medications to anesthetize an elephant. I don't see how she remembers to take all that. I would be having problems with compliance, too!

I stood out in the yard as her sister, Janice, came and got her.

"Bye sweetheart. You get to feeling better," I said as I waved.

"Watch after my house for me," Joyce replied after me as she shut the car's door. "And hug Maggie goodnight."

I shut my front door as they were driving down the street to take Joyce back to her home away from home. I could see Joyce looking out the rear view window of Janice's Mazda. I felt a lot of gratitude for not being caught in mental hospitals this Christmas season. I know several people that have spent some time inside. The holidays are always a hard time for us mentally interesting folks. Let's hope I can hold out till after New Year's.

You'll hold out well past New Year's, I think.

You are such a kind and caring friend to Joyce. I am sorry that she had to return to the hospital, but better now than later - before things got worse for her. Holidays are a hard time for many folks, Andrew, especially those of us who live alone. I have every confidence you're going to do just fine though... thirty more days and counting down, my friend! :-)

I love that phrase "mentally interesting". It's a good one. I am sorry about Joyce though. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to the meds and then you feel more normal. Maybe she isn't taking them properly. It's som much harder that she had no one really checking on her (except you of course). I will hope that this week finds her much better. As for you, we all expect you to make it through the holidays unscathed. You have all of us here for support. Don't hesitate to call on us. We are here to keep an on on what is happening with you.

Do you have your tree yet?

Yes, I love that wording, mentally interesting! I am sad for Joyce, as well. Hospitals and holidays don't belong together.

I hope she returns home soon.

peace,
Lena

I'm so glad you were a good friend to Joyce while she was home. She can count on you, thank goodness. I'm wondering if she was improperly medicating...maybe getting confused about the dosages. I hope she's home soon. It's been a long time since you've been hospitalized. You've come so far since then. You have a huge support basis here, and I hope that helps when you're feeling down. You take it one day at a time and that probably makes life so much more manageable. I know it does for me. I have faith in you Andrew.

Bless Joyce's heart. I hope she returns home soon healthy and happier this next time around.

I know hospitalization is something that is always worrisome but I believe you are going to be just fine so sit back and enjoy Christmas and New Years and don't even think about the H word. :)

I like the phrase "mentally interesting"! I think we are all "mentally interesting" Andrew, and frankly, at many, many times in our lives, just a diagnosis away from a hospital ourselves.

I am hoping that Joyce has a very speedy recovery, and can get back home before Christmas.

Okay, it's monday!! Should I be the one to tell you this, or do you want to hear it from the news..........
more snow in the forecast for Chitown...coming from up north..
I hope I can capture enough in a bucket to ship to you so that you and Maggie could have a paw hand snowfight. :)
Have a great monday!
