It has become a big joke within my family that I want curtains for Christmas.
"Surely, you can think of something more like you to ask for Christmas," my mother said tonight.
"I could use some new lampshades," was my reply.
My mother sighed softy and smiled at the same time at my alternate choice of gifts. Dad came over later to bring my medications. I had to guess what time he was coming over to be sure to eat a big meal so I could get rid of all those damned pills he forces upon me. It has been a week off of them, and I feel like a new man. I feel my long lost creativity, emotions, and sexuality returning in full force.
"Don't you want some clothes?" Dad asked me, feverishly channel surfing as he normally does every night.
"I could take some comfortable t-shirts," I replied.
"Me and your mother are just worried you are not going to have a good Christmas with just those curtains."
It was intriguing to me that everyone, including my brother and sister, are worried about my choice of gifts this year.
"You always liked electronic gadgets and video games," Dad told me.
"Well, I have my camera and my computer is now fixed," I replied. "I don't really lack for anything electronically these days. I can't play video games anymore. They are too much like work -- full of repetition."
The only thing I really, absolutely need doing is to have my car serviced and the oil changed. Dad agreed he would help me get that done before Christmas. I, personally, am tickled pink about getting new curtains from Country Curtains this year. You know you are grown up when you would rather have curtains than an XBOX 360.

Yep, curtains over XBox is a sure sign!
It is sweet that your parents want to make sure you will have a happy Christmas!

I asked for a kitchen scale. Sometimes it's the little things. Of course, curtains aren't little. We have a Country Curtains store nearby. They have beautiful curtains. Did you do the picking out?
My Sister asked for a leaf blower and her family thought she was kidding... she's not!
So I let her borrow mine.
Last year I asked for a generator. Didn't get it. This year, a front door. Not happenin.
I LOVE Country Curtains!
I want a Roomba.
I think curtains are a fine gift!
They certianly perk up your life, and thats what a gift is supposed to do, isn't it?
Have a good day Andrew.
hahaha...that is true! I totally agree with you on the video games, I used to enjoy playing them, but then it got to be tedious...level 3, again? BAH!
Always,
Crusty~
Ha ha ! That's funny.
It's whatever makes ya happy. But yep curtains over xbox, definately means "grown up"
One year I asked for a laser level . And I got it. Woo hoo!!
This year I had matching set of silver ware on my list ....got it!:)
Hope today is a good one for ya!
I don't think it's strange at all that you want curtains - it's practical, and it will make you happy, since you enjoy your house so much. Nothing wrong with being practical. Personally, I don't want or need another gift set of perfume or soap that I will never use, more random jewelery or some trinket that is going to clutter up my small apartment (that I like decorated minimalistically). This year, I need a new winter coat, some warm and stylish sweaters and maybe a remote car-starter. Since gas prices are so insane, I have told people that I really could use gas gift cards. Last year, my boyfriend gave me a Zen (a PC-based iPod that will play movies and videos) and it was the best, most useful present I ever got in my life! I hope you get your curtains! Country Curtains are great. I always liked their tab-tops.
The kitchen scale that Cheryl asked for takes the cake for growing up. LOL I got mine when I turned 40 from my mother!! At 43 I am asking for XBox. That is weird, dont ya think?

long, and every year I hand it to my parents they make a 'Hmphhh' sound.
(It's their fault for asking me to produce a list, anyhow. Don't blame me.)
(What happened last year)- It's not exactly inspiring when I ask for hair straighteners, a CD, a new phone, a CSI box set, concert tickets, or if they can't get any of that.. then at least £20 so we can go and get some coffee in town....
And then, on christmas day, what do I unwrap?
A 'Hungry Crocodile' board game, ages 4+.
Thanks Mum and Dad.
Maybe this year.
Good work with the blogging x
They obviously all have curtains;)
I think curtains are great, that's what you want. And, I happen to really love Country Curtains. You could ask for the purse strings to be loosened up this next year by your Dad. LOL! That's great that your Dad is having your car serviced. Ask for that to be done every 3,000 miles for you next year.
I totally understand where you are coming from. When you have a new house you want curtains on the windows. Just a quick kid note: My son and daughter in law just moved into a new place, my granddaughter, who is 5 this year told me that the thing she wants the most is princess curtains for her windows...not a doll or a toy of any kind...just curtains. This is also the same child that ALWAYS for the last 3 years has asked for new clothes for her birthday. Now, I don't want you to think that she goes around in rags, Both her parents and I buy her clothes (she is the only girl grandchild) all the time, it is just what she wants. So my friend, I hope you get the exact curtains that you are hoping for and a very very Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I am glad that you are asking for what you need and want...I know it is a little thing but this I think in years that I did not ask for socks. I have a bad habit of being hard on socks.
I mainly asked for gift cards to various places like walgreens I do lots of shopping there and then to Borders and such.
You are sooooo cute! Curtains and lampshades. Soft tee shirts are a blessing. What's Maggie getting for Christmas? Have you thought of baking her some dog bisquits?

I ask for socks every year! I love socks and they keep my feet warm. My sister always says No REALLY, What do you want? I repeat. Socks!
Enjoy your curtains!

Isn't that the truth! Video games used to attract my attention... no more! And for the curtains... ANything to spruce up a room makes a great gift! :-)
Curtains do sound nice. So do the lampshades. I am not asking for anything this year. I know my mom already got me the Paula Deen cookware set. I love that woman! Her southern drawl always reminds me of you!
I loved reading all your comments!
I asked my parents to pay for my optometrist so I can get new glasses for Christmas. Then, I really felt like an old lady.
Merry, merry!
LOL! My parents are buying me tennis shoes and dishes.
Have you ever played the Wii? My kids are getting one for Christmas.
Woo! I'd rather have a Wii!
Are you doing OK today??
Lena
Wow, you went a whole day without blogging! I hope you weren't drinking...
Good Morning Andrew----Where are you this am? Just missing you, Jamie.
