Committed to Quitting...

I realize once I publish this that I will be committed to quitting smoking.  I just got off the phone with my family practitioner.  Dr. Kamath is going to call in some prescriptions to help with the quitting process.  I smoked my last cigarette last night around midnight.  I haven't felt this determined about quitting in years.  I am also very excited, but realized the upcoming week is going to be tough.  Very tough.

Wow - Andrew that is a huge committment and challenge. Will you be using the nicotine patch or one of the other medications like Varenicline? I hear they can be very successful. But you are so used to having something to do with your hands - I hope that you can get through this successfully but please don't be down on yourself if at the first attempt you can't.

Sir:

Out of curiosity, what brought about this effort? Is it only to quit cigarettes, or is pipe tobacco to be eliminated also?

Good luck with your endeavor. I quit when I was 23. Best move I ever made, but it was hard. I actually smoked a few times after quitting, but just went right back to not smoking and after a year, I couldn't stand to be around it at all. I am hoping you will do as well.

I wish you the best! We all know how much of a success you have been with your other addictions! Sure wish I had that kind of dedication.

Keep us posted - maybe if you can do it, I can too!

Good for you! It's hard but if you can give up drinking you can give up smoking. I've done it and I know how difficult it is. On the other hand, because I've done it I know you can do it too. I used the Nicotine patch and it got me through the roughest of times. It'll be 10 years in Feb/2010 and I can hardly believe it'll be that long. Go for it, you can do it!
