We ate a traditional Southern New Year's Day meal at my brother's house today. I was smart and just told my father I would meet them down in Auburn. Dad wanted me to ride with him and my mother. I knew they would stay for hours and I would want to drive home after the meal. I guess I committed a social faux pas by eating and then running.
Say goodnight and go, Gracie! Oh, well. Five years ago I wouldn't have even attempted this sojourn in social anxiety.
My sister-in-law is a fantastic cook and we had peppercorn encrusted pork loin, turnip greens, black-eyed peas, and spicy Mexican cornbread. White wine was also freely flowing, but I didn't even feel tempted at all.

Our tradition for good luck is eating sauerkraut and with a dime in it..originally was silver so the dime represents silver even though not really silver anymore...
