Rest In Peace...

My grandmother, Leta, passed away this afternoon at the age of 87. Mom called me just a crying. "I wish mother could have had a softer heart," she told me. I have been asked to be a pallbearer, but am concerned about the strength in my left arm which I broke 4 years ago. Not sure if I will be able to lift the casket. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. I hope you all had a less sorrowful New Year's day.

Sir:

I am very sorry for your loss. The death of those we love is horrible to experience.

Andrew, I am sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I think your arm will be ok. Does it bother you when you lift heavy things? I'm sure they will understand if you can't do it.

I wish you peace for this coming year.

Andrew, I'm so very sorry for your loss. My mother died in November, so I know how tough it is to lose family, no matter what their age. Stay strong, sending good prayers your way.

You're in my thoughts. I know your grandmother was a character, and you'll have lots of memories of her, always. Lots of stories. She won't be forgotten.

I'm sorry to hear this! You and your mom will be in my prayers today. It's hard to lose a parent and a grandparent, as both are special.

I have always loved the Native American saying about those who pass: When you look up at the sky, it is not stars you see, but the reflections of those we have loved and who gone. They are shining down, letting us know that they are happy.

As far as being a pallbearer, even though I'm a woman, I have stood in as a pallbearer to two friends who passed. Normally, a stretcher-like contraption is employed, so your arm won't bear the weight. Being asked is an honor. If your church does not use the stretcher, ask to be one of the "side carriers," as they bear much less weight than the front and back people. I am significantly smaller than you are and have wrist injuries, and it wasn't a problem.

I wanted to add one more thing, also. My grandmother (bless her soul) was also "hard hearted." Even though she wasn't the soft and fuzzy grandmother (and my mom also was from that mold, too, though to a lesser extent) I wished I had, she nonetheless contributed to who I am as a person today. Reflecting back on her ways and my mom's ways have helped me understand myself and my world and the people I've chosen to have in it a little better. I think it was Thoreau who said, "We love the things we love for what they are and not for what we wish they were." Again, my thoughts are with you today.

Oh Andrew, I am so sorry about the loss of your Grandmother. Please pass along to you Mom my sympathy as well. I know your Grandmother would be so proud of you and your accomplishments the past year. As for being concerned about your arm, just tell the person in charge you can't use your left arm, you need to use your right arm. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

My thoughts to you and your mom!
The strength will be found for your arm because it's for your mom.

Much love,
