The Arrow of Time

I thought this was neat...

On June 17th, every year, the family goes through a private ritual; we photograph ourselves to stop, for a fleeting moment, the arrow of time passing by.

That is cool. It's funny, because we were all talking last night about how much we've all changed. Before leaving Buffalo, Chewy had seen a friend of ours. He was grey and balding, and it upset Chewy to see how old he was. This friend is 10 years younger than I am.

When Chewy was quite young, I'd often awaken to see him standing by the bed staring at me. I'd ask him what he was doing, and he'd say he was watching to make sure I got no wrinkles. He knew that you start to wrinkle before you get old and when you are very old you die. He used to be obsessed with the thought of my growing old and dying.

Now I think he can't see the wrinkles that are really there, although from time to time I do catch him glancing at my greying hair, I think my aging has kinda snuck up on him.
