Dear Diary...

Today I went to a different doctor than my psychiatrist.  Mom tagged along as my support group.  We were both worried about what dad would say.  I didn't like my psychiatrist telling me to do breathing exercises to stop these terrible anxiety attacks.  This new doctor put me on beta blockers saying it will help with dealing with adrenaline at certain receptors.  He also prescribed Clonazepam to be taken every day.  My psychiatrist would only allow an emergency ration of this medicine.   I am so tired my eyes are burning.  I know I will sleep well tonight. I feel like some great victory was achieved today.  Someone light the fireworks.

Good for you. It's nice to find a doc that listens! I hope this helps a lot.

It's always good to get a second opinion when you aren't happy with the first one. I'm glad you're feeling better Andrew.

I was on beta blockers for migraine for a year. It helped with the severity. Initially they made me tired but after a few weeks I noticed nothing. I took them at night, it was easier to remember. Don't dispute totally the relaxation exercises. Once your anxiety has lessened some, you may be able to better use them. The meds are only a temporary solution and have their own problems. I think once you get it under control more you will be able to take them less and be good. I am always pulling for your success. Having someone new to talk to and of your choice may also help.

Dear Andrew, I am lighting fireworks nd cheering loudly as I watch your Sobriety Counter approach the big 5-0-0 in just a few more hours. That's fantastic! I remember when it was in low double digits and very tentative. I remember when your father and you were always at crosshairs. Now look at you and how far you've come in being in control of your life and not letting the things you struggle with overcome you. It is my pleasure to watch you change and grow and I am honored to count you among my friends! Keep up the good work, Andrew - your very best years are ahead! :-) XOXO, Josie

i work at a psych hospital. we have patients switch drs all the time. each psychiatrist has a slightly different take on medicine. you have to find the doc that fits best with you!

I'm so glad you went for a new opinion. If this new course of action works, what a relief it will be for you.

I just saw big storms are out your way. Stay safe.
