Be Careful What You Ask For...

"Dad?  What is something I could do for you today?" I asked my father over the phone a moment ago.

I've been trying to do little things to help my parents out.  They do so much for me.

"Trim the back hedge in the backyard and I would forever be indebted to you," Dad said over the bustling din of his drug store.

"Shit!" I muttered under my breath.  Not the dreaded back hedge.  Of all things I could have done, that would be the one dad picked.

"Okay," I said none too enthusiastically.

"Love you son," Dad said as he hung up the phone the valiant victor.

Well, I better go get to trimming.  It is a two hour job on spindly step ladders.  I will be sore for a week.  :-)

That was really kind of you to ask your dad. I know that it will mean much to him with you asking and following thru even if it is not something that you do not want to do. I think it is another way of showing your dad that you are not using. I understand about you not wanting to trim the bushes....I would not want to do that nor could I do it with as unstable as I am. I hope that you reward yourself today after you do this by something like working on the railroad models or reading some of the magazines that you like

It is great you are trying to do things for your family. Nothing helps my attitude and mood better than helping someone else. While there are FEW I would do mega yard work for they are also the only ones who think to even ask me for that kind of help. Hope you have a sense of accomplishment looking at the hedges nicely trimmed.:)
It was agorgeous day here in texas hope you had simular mild weather there.

I hate trimming hedges. Mine are short but very big around and I have to do them twice a year. Actually they could use it more often, but I'm not willing. I have to wait for all the berries from the pear tree to fall on them before I can start. Oh joy!

Good for you!

So true! :-) But how nice of you to ask and do something you really don't want to do for your parents. That says a lot about you!

Andrew, way to step up and offer to help out. It's so easy to get caught up in the things that only directly affect our own lives.

Also, I just glanced to my left for the first time in a while. 337 days!!!

That's amazing!!! Hold your head up high!

I'm sure he'll appreciate the effort. I'm sure he's of an age where getting up on those ladders would be a dangerous task.

You're a good son Andrew!

337 days.....WOW!! Kudos to you.

gosh, trimming a hedge for someone who gave you a house and a car, what a high price to pay.
