The Hunchback of Driving Lane

This morning found me and Rosa eating at the diner. The sound of dishes being washed and the smell of frying bacon permeated the air. I was in far left field as Rosa attempted a conversation with me.

"What did you think of what your father did last night?" she asked.

"Oh, he was just acting out," I replied, eating my omelet. "He was just pissed cause I told him the truth. My day did suck yesterday."

My father had gone storming out of my house when I lit up a cigarillo inside last night.

"I am not going to be around smoking with my heart!" he hollered.

I had to bite my tongue and not say that the 12 hour stressful days he works at his all consuming business were far more damaging to his heart than just one cigarillo smoked around him. He was being silly and just wanted to piss me off. I didn't bite.

"Are we going to go get you some new shoes, today?" Rosa then asked.

"Yeap," I replied. "And I need some new windshield wipers as well."

"When do you start your art classes?"

"I am going to call that woman today," I replied. "I wish I could start tomorrow."

As is customary for Rosa, we were having our usual one hundred questions session. She so reminds me of my mother in this regard.

We left the diner as the rain was softly falling. I couldn't see shit out of the windshield of my car. I was hunched over like some hunchback looking through a small window of opportunity. Rosa laughed.

"You look constipated hunched over like that," she said.

I burst out laughing enjoying some early morning bathroom humor. Hey, I am a guy. Luckily, the diner isn't far from my house and we made it home safely.

You write very well. Congrats for overcoming the early life issues. Let nothing hold you back. You only live once.

well, no matter what you think, I believe it will be great if you don't take cigarillo any more

That's exciting about the art lessons! If Rosa didn't care, she wouldn't ask so many questions. Be thankful for the questions/concern.

Did you end up going to AA last night?

Hey Andrew... sometimes women have to ask a lot of questions because their boyfriends/husbands don't offer anything in the way of conversation. I've learned that with my husband and two sons. Try not to be annoyed with Rosa, she just wants to talk with you.

Rosa has a wonderful sense of humor, she knows just what to say to make you laugh! I am much like her with the 100 questions - it is a form of conversation, and I love to know all about the people in my life. I suppose it can be annoying... perhaps you need to limit the number of questions she can ask at any one time, that would make a fun game of it, as she would have to choose wisely!

Into every life a little rain must fall... Art lessons sound like a great idea.

BTW, I am amused by commentors who I frequently see telling you what you should do or shouldn't do - ahh so much wisdom! But I think they forget that this is YOUR life, and your choices, and we are blessed that you share it with us. Sometimes they sound too much like your father. Andrew is a grown man, and is doing marvelously at figuring things out!

While I am not a smoker, it is YOUR house, and YOUR rules apply there - no one elses!

the art lessons sound very exciting! i hope you get to start soon & like your teacher.

i loved the descriptive beginning...i can hear the clanking dishes and the sizzling frying pan:)

We do like to ask questions, don't we?

LOL! I'm glad I hadn't taken a drink of my Crystal Light because it would have been all over my monitor. I love bathroom humor! LOL Art classes sound great. As for those questions, I hate being asked a million and one questions.. I also hate asking a million and one questions. I always feel like I'm bothering someone. Anyway...

i like people asking questions, that shows that they are thinking about life/ohters/whatever...and i think it is time to put this writing into a book! It reads like a story and you're doing a great job...why not publishing it at the end! Keep going....and for the smoking...people care about you too, that's why the comments about smoking...don't see it as negative, do whatever you think is good or right when reading it. Although it is your life, we should care about one another in this life!

Andrew You write so well that the words go straight through to the heart and soul. So much so that everybody around here wants to be sure that you are ok and we get to hear that your life is going great. you share such details with us all that we feel so close to you. Ofcourse you are more grownup than a lot of people. advice is painfully dull and frustrating to the receiver, but it is a way people show their care and concern.

Thanks for the laughs. The title especially brilliant. lol
Take care

Hello Andrew. I came across your blog a while back when I hit the "next" button. I come by for a visit bout every day to see what you and your friends are up to. I do find encouragement from all that you have and are overcoming. Hope you get a camera soon so we can watch your progress as a painter....later we can say we knew him when!

I have such a hard time with a million questions coming at me. Always makes me feel guilty, like I did something wrong. If you didn't bark at her for it, you did well. :-)

You get the best comments. I shouldn't read them before I write 'cause I get intimidated! I finally got new windshield wipers. We have the same car, you know. I've never had new wipers before on any car so it's a thrill for me. It's the little things in life that impress me.

Andrew, you are an immature selfish dickhead!! Someone should punch your dispicably immature selfish DUMBASS is the head repeatedly! Cigarillo smoke IS extremely bad for the heart and your unsaid response is pathetically immature and petty. Your dad made the comment because your such an immature thoughtless dickhead that you didn't considered him to be a living human being with a serious health condition. Do you also push over parapallegics and get mad at them for "trying to piss you off" by not being able to move?

Andrew, please consider disallowing anonymous comments - spewing venom anonymously is only for cowards. Anyone with a credible opinion would have the courage to add their name to it.

I hope you are doing ok, you are missed here, I hope you know that you have a warm circle of friends who stand by you always, no matter what.

Andrew, are you ok, we haven't heard from you in a few days, I hope all is well!!

Hopefully you are out having a great weekend!

Regarding the cowardly anonymous post, we as bloggers know that when we put stuff out there---we risk getting told off, we risk idiot commentary, foul language, etc.

It toughens the skin a bit. I find it far worse to receive a few off-putting words from someone i know in the "real" world than some inane drivel from an "anonymous."

andrew, hang tough.
