Sleep, Wonderful Sleep…

“What’s worrying you?” my psychiatrist asked yesterday upon telling him I have terrible insomnia these days.

I thought for a long second.

“My computer,” I finally replied. “Dad ordered me a new 2 Terabyte hard drive and it still hasn’t come in.  I am very anxious about it.”

My psychiatrist smiled telling me how much he loves to work on his home computers as well.  “A man of my own heart,” I thought.

“I’m hesitant to prescribe any more medications,” he told me. “You are already on so many.  I am going to give you some relaxation CDs and I want you to listen to them before bed.”

I was extremely dubious of these CDs.  I scoffed internally.  How can a mere compact disc of a lady talking and music help you sleep eight hours?  I was wrong.  I put a CD in my stereo before bed, undressed, climbed in my covers, and slept for eight hours in the first time for weeks.  I woke up feeling so good!

My hard drive came last night.  I was so excited to get it installed.  It only took around five minutes, but it took an hour to backup all my files.  Now I have some peace of mind that all my files are mostly duplicated and protected.

Sleep, it's wonderful. I haven't been as active as I usually am because of the fractured femur. And then there have been daytime catnaps. I've had a few maddening insomniac nights during my recovery. Glad the CD worked for you.

Christina,

The CD is titled Relaxation and Meditation from the Midwest center for Anxiety and Depression. It really did the trick last night. About the snow, I am thinking of putting the blog on snow alert! LOL

Forsythia,

I've been worried about you!!! How are you feeling? Has the pain lessened? I read on your blog that you are feeling a little better. Broken bones hurt so badly! Thank you as always for your input. You brightened my day!

I find relaxation tapes help so much when i am feeling anxious, i was given one when i was going through a very anxious depressing time a few years ago..it was realxing music and the sounds of a forest (birds babbling brook etc)and also a beach, breaking waves..gulls etc...i used to fall asleep listening to it..and still use it when i am feeling upset...i have made a few copies of it since & it as also helped others...we all feel so much better when we have had a good sleep....sometimes thats all that is needed.

That is very similar to the CDs my psychiatrist gave me. Mine are mostly music though. It is so good to have you back and commenting. I've missed you!

I either sleep till 4:30 AM or 7:00 AM. I like the latter much better. I've lived through the dark times of insomnia and it's a terrible thing. I hope the CD's continue to soothe and help you sleep.

I can't wait to hear about your snow. I'm in denial and haven't checked our forecast at all. No snow, please.

I still have to write you that e-mail. I will.

Cheryl,

The temperature is 35 right now. I am starting to get disappointed! I don't think we are going to have much, but you know me and the snow. I get so excited. It never snows here. Don't worry about the email. I just appreciate you reading and commenting.

Hey Andrew! I'm glad you got a good nights sleep last night. I hope you feel energized today! I'm also glad you are feeling better after getting your meds.
Well, not to brag...but it is snowing here in TN today. It's a very fine snow...the driveway and roads are covered, but just a dusting on the grass. K was soooo excited. The temp is not supposed to get out of the 20's for a couple of days, so it will probably hang around a while.
Have a great day and do your snow dance!

L!!!

I am so jealous. It should start raining her soon and then turn over to snow this afternoon (I hope!). I hope the kids enjoy the snow. You will have to email me and tell me what they've been up to!

A CD gave you back your sleep? That's amazing! I've seen them and figured it was just another scam. Maybe I'll get one and try it myself!

Don't give up completely on that snow. Check your map for Merritt Island, FL! We've been hearing a possibility of flurries Friday and/or Saturday night. What the heck is going on?

We are waiting for snow, too. In my line of work it could mean a delay in getting into work or better yet, a snow day home!! But somehow I think it will be business as usual!

Nothing like a good night's sleep. Glad you didn't need more meds to help you sleep. I like your doctor's thinking.

Anxiety over unforseen things is the devil for sure. I understand. Maybe I should get some of those CDs. I have one of rain that helps but it bugs the warden. Don't know why, he can sleep through many other things. Ha!

Any snow yet? We're supposed to get about 2 inches tonight from an Alberta Clipper.

I am an insomniac as well. It sucks. I have never slept so well as when I use my relaxation/meditation CDs before bed. For some reason, I'm still resistent to using them. They work, I enjoy them when I'm using them, but I'm always reluctant to set it up for some reason.

Anyway, I'm glad it worked for you. Sleep is a wonderful thing.

That is so great that you finally slept! I too suffer from insomnia and know how illusive it can be. I hope the CD's continue to help.

Thank you for reminding me about using music to help sleep. I did it years ago, every night in fact, worked like a charm. I love anything from Narada, check the company out online.

I see commercials about the Midwest Center all the time. They try help with depression and anxiety without using drugs. I am happy to hear their CD helped. Also that your dr was reluctant to just write a script for more meds is a good sign.
