It Starts with a Cough, and Erupts into Mayhem...

Every Wednesday morning the trash men come. Maggie can hear them for miles away in the predawn dark. Long before I can hear them. It starts with a bark that sounds like a muted cough as she lays on the bed.

"Dammit, Maggie," I muttered this morning as I pulled my spare pillow over my head.

Soon, the coughing bark erupts into full blown mayhem as Maggie runs outside to protect her kingdom from the invading trash men. By this time, all the neighborhood dogs have joined in. Pure canine pandemonium.

When I was a child, we had a dog named Candy. Candy was the same way and would sit outside my brother's window and start this same routine. My brother would run outside in his pajamas and holler at her to shut up. It would make me smile as I would roll over and go back to bed. Now, my past has come back to haunt me. The trash men cometh and the dog barketh. No sleeping in today. I am wide awake now.

I think the trash men are the only thing my dog doesn't bark at.

I have trash pick up on Wednesdays too! When there are holidays say like Memorial day or Labor day, to they come a day later too?

Maggie Maggie, if you could only talk-what is it about the rumbling of the truck that gets you going? Or is it the fact that these trashmen are preventing you from delving after dads meal laid to rest in the rubbish bin? :)

Always,
Crusty~

I think every dog at least in my experience barks lots at the trash truck. I have wondered if the noise of the truck bothers their ears and also probably thinking that they need to "protect" from that massive truck. i hope thatyou have a good day, I will be eager to hear how your doctor visit went.

I got woken by claws in my face this morning. The cat has figured that one out, and if one gentle pat on the cheek doesn't wake me up, she goes now for the full claws-out approach.
Sometimes she'll wake me by pulling at my lip with one single claw, which always makes me laugh. It's so cute, I can never get mad.

Thats why I'm grateful my cats don't bark. But if they see another cat outside, they go into attack mode and yowl and yowl til the offending feline goes about it's business.

Animals are funny.

How is Maggie with the doorbell?

I get four dogs barking anytime someone is at my door.

We had the sweetest Britanny Spaniel when I was a boy. But he turned into a 'pit bull' whenever the garbage men came. He also turned that way against the Mail carrier and anyone else in uniform like the Power Company meter checkers. Could it be that there is some deep seeded, perhaps instinctive hatred, of uniformed people (eg the Dog Catcher).

What fun for the dogs. Can I just say how happy I am that there's no barking dogs in my immediate vicenity? No being woken up in the morning? At least it's just once a week for you. We have trash removal twice.

We have six cats including three half grown kittens. When they hear the trash truck coming they run around the house in total panic trying to find someplace to hide. No barking at least!
When my son was little he loved to watch the trash truck and would always get so excited each week. 'mama the trash truck, the trash truck!'

LOL! Maggie is the queen of the yard and has to watch over her kingdom!!!!! I had a cat once, Mandy, that would grawl at the trash collectors. It was wild.
