Life's Too Short

I was scolded in an email tonight for "putting too much of myself out there" and "being too personal and emotional" in the comments I leave on other blogs.  My friend was embarrassed for me, but I won't name any names.  My caveat is that life is too short to let the people you care about go through life without knowing it.  I have often said I am socially aloof most days, but I like to think it is an endearing quality I foster.  I would like to think that one good thing came out of this wretched mental illness -- my wearing my heart upon my sleeve.

It's your heart, so you can wear it where you want to, but you don't get to complain if people use it for target practice...

do people follow you around and read your comments on other's blogs?

Ok well thats all fine for them. Just like it's alright for you to comment how you feel.

sheesh. Personally I would be tickled to get a comment from you one day LOL. No complaints from here.

It is impossible to please everyone here, Andrew. The only one you really have to please is YOU! Keep being yourself, most of us think you are awesome just the way you are! It is your willingness to put yourself out there, both on your blog and in the comments you leave, that makes you seem real, approachable, and caring. Yes, there is emotional risk to sharing ourselves so openly, but I always feel that it is worth it! (((hugs)))

I'm glad your friend is concerned for you, but I disagree. It is your heart that draws me to your blog every day.

There is not enough heart/emotion in the world these days. We should welcome it more.

Take care!

Wearing your heart on your shoulder is a good thing, but it can be scary as well since some people take it as an invitation to walk all over you. I try to be as real and honest as possible and some people think of me as a rather short person, but I think that's just me making sure everyone knows where they stand with me. Anyhow, continue being you and I'm sure you'll be fine despite anyone thinking they know better than you what's good for you.

My mother said: "Human life is very long and yet tomorrow may be the last day". So all we have to do is to live lives we never regret even if tomorrow could be the last day. After all, everything's gonna be alright no matter what they tell you. Have a nice day!

ya know... sometimes i feel i've said too much at imes too. but by then it's too late. most times.
the way i see it--- you write who you are, and if people don't like---or can't handle who you are;;;;; then screw em. right?
be yourself my brotha/////
it's true--- it's your honesty that keeps people interested and coming back to know more about you---and of course your writing.
damn i wish i could write like that.

Most people like us are secretive and emotionally flat and totally wrappped up in their own problems and fantasy world. If you are outgoing and caring about others than it is a good thing. How could it be otherwise?

Today is Christmas tree day isn't it? I'm excited for you!

I have to disagree with your friend. It's refreshing to read someone who is so honest about themselves and their feelings.

Your heart is most definitely one of your most endearing qualities. Your openness brings me back to see how you're doing and what's new--that and your beautiful pictures. You are who you are, don't change. :)

Your life is your own. You live it the way YOU want to. Apparently you are doing something right Andrew, you have many, many folks that care about you. :)

I agree Andrew, just be yourself and wear your heart wherever you like.

Most people who know what it is like to be in need of TLC will not criticize or condemn you for expressing that openly - there are some who are the unhealed wounded and remain fearful and condemning and criticizing - I suspect your friend has an acute awareness of those sorts and was feeling protective of you.

I've been wearing my heart upon my sleeve since I was a child, and although life was not always kind to such exposed heart, it is ultimately a very fulfilling way of living.

Keep going!

I agree, they were just wanting to protect you from the not nice people in the world. However, they can be deleted very easily.

i'm with d.h. pang as far as wearing your heart on your sleeve. it's brought me love, insighta nd good things - and some sadness, but all of it has been illuminating.

I appreciate your comments on my blog. I know I don't respond to them directly. I don't often respond directly to comments. But I appreciate them!

If your tone changes in your blog or on your comments (for example you are more emotional or less emotional), I do feel a twinge of concern. That is only because I have a brother with Schizophrenia. When your tone changes, I am concerned that you might not be taking your meds or that the meds are too strong or too weak. I have that concern with my brother all of the time!
