George is in Jail for a driving under the influence charge he got last night about 3am in the morning. Mrs. Florene says he has a hearing this afternoon to see whether they will allow him bail or not. George has had four or five previous DUI’s and I fear he may be in jail until his court date in a few weeks. Mrs. Florene sounded beside herself. She doesn't know what to do. I just told her that I am always there for her and will talk to dad to talk to the judge when he goes to court. Dad got me out of several DUI’s over the years by calling the judge. Dad knows everyone and has sway in this little small town. I would hate to see my friend go to jail for a long time for a stupid mistake. It was bound to happen again, though, as George had a bad propensity to drink and drive. Maybe this is the sort of thing that will wake him up to the fact that he has a more serious problem. I don’t know.

And, it's bound to happen again unless George sees some consequences for his actions. I know how you feel, Andrew. He is your friend and you want to help, but the fact is, some innocent person could have been killed. I do hope he wakes up before something really bad happens.

I hope he has a job to go back to after this is over...It was bound to happen sooner or later...
Ditto. The best thing you and Mrs. Florene can do is to allow George to face the consequences of his drinking and driving. It's hard to watch someone self-destruct like that, but it is HIS life, his responsibility to fix, not yours or Mrs. Florene's.
With that many previous ones he may see some PRISON time this time around. That's what happened to my nephew...36 months for 3rd count OUI. I feel sorry for George's mom. Please stay in touch with her and see if you can help her out some. Don't be feeling guilty now....you tried to talk George out of drinking and to go with you instead. You're doing good Andrew. I think the new dosage of meds may be working good for you. Be well.
As always my heart goes out to George. I have seen many decent, honest, and hard working friends fall to the temptation of Drinking and Driving. But each person struggling with addictions has to find their own "Roch Bottom" before they can really make a change. Hopefully George has found his.
My heart goes out to poor Mrs Florene..its hard when you get older and something like this happens,..as i know only too well. While i do feel sorry for George, He could have killed someone, how would he live with that knowledge ??..IF this imprisonment (IF it happens)is what it will take to stop him drinking & driving then maybe it will be for the best..just be there for him and be his friend..I know you will anyway.
I hate to hear that George is back to drinking again. You have been a great friend to him and maybe this time he will realize that he could have hurt someone. Just be a listening ear to Mrs. Florence and help her out when needed. I liked the "Let go and Let God" saying. We all need God's help to get us through tough circumstances...anyways, I hope you have a nice Spring day! -L
It didn't wake him up the other 4 or 5 times, why should it now?
Maybe your dad should let it go.He
isn't helping George by cleaning up his messes.
You'll be George's friend wherever he is. He may have to be your phone (I know!) buddy for a while. I'm glad he didn't get hurt or hurt anyone else.
