God went to "all the trouble" because he loves you! Why not just absolve us all of our sins? God gave us free choice and we must first have faith, and believe, then CHOOSE to love Him. Choose to love him. Choose to believe in his Son. Choose to accept that he has a will for your life. Choose to hope for eternity in heaven.
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."
He wants us to come to Him because we love Him enough to give ourselves to Him and follow Him, not because he can cure us, make us wealthy, etc. He won't force us. He sits and He waits.
Along with the gift of Christ, there is judgement. Romans 3:23...All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." "For the wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Have Faith in things not seen, Believe that Jesus died on the cross for YOU, and was raised from the dead, and you will have HOPE for the future, here on earth, and in eternity.
Jesus said, "If you confess me before men, I will confess you before my Father, which is in heaven."
I know you are probably thinking that a loving God wouldn't "give you mental illness". When man first sinned, it brought death into the world. Along with that came diseases. God doesn't GIVE them to us. Sickness, disease, death are all a part of the consequence of the fall of Adam. In the beginning God created a perfect world, and gave Man a choice. Man screwed it up. God could have left them there in the garden to rot, but He loved us enough to give us hope. Then He sent Christ to pay the ultimate price for our sin.
God will help you through the hard times. The bible says He doesn't give us more than we are able to handle. But you have to first acknowledge that He exists. To say anyone can make up any God and that's ok, well, it's just not accurate.
God loves you. He wants you to love him back and trust him. All the rest will fall into place. He might not heal you, but he will be there with you and for you. But it won't happen if you don't even believe in Him.
Praying is good. But God knows his own. Are you a true believer? If not, praying is in vain.
Now these three things abide..Faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is Love. Do you LOVE him, Andrew?

My mother said that in the south, that if you opened the front door it was a signal to your friends and neighbors that you were receiving.
Happy Easter!
