The Talk in the Office...

I got to work this afternoon and there was another note on my computer.  "Come get me when you get in and let's talk in my office," my father had wrote.  Oh! Shit!

My biggest fears weren't realized, though.  I thought dad was going to tell me he didn't need me anymore, or that I haven't been doing my job.

"I am proud of you son," he told me as I sat down. "You've done so well lately and it makes me proud."

I sighed with relief and grinned with glee.

"Y'all tell me when I am doing good," I told him. "I get a lot of attention when I am doing badly, but no one says a word when I doing fine."

I have seven more days until dad is supposed to give me my disability money again.  We are going to start small and only give me $20 dollars a week.  Still, I will feel rich having a regular income again.  The first thing I want to do is put a donated dollar in all the baskets of my AA meetings.  What a relief!

This begs the question, do you get paid for working at the Pharmacy?

Dad keeps the money and it pays for my groceries, cigarettes, and diet Cokes. My mother goes with me to the grocery store and writes a check out of my disability account. I also can get paid in merchandise from the drugstore. I drink A LOT of diet coke.

So that gives you the sense of purpose that you've been wanting plus a feeling of working for what you get, right?

Sounds alot better than where you were at a few months ago...

Why do we always assume the worst? I'm so glad the news was good. This job has done so much for you and I'm so happy for you. Just tell you Dad you need a new computer. :-)

Wow what a surprise that was! See, I told your your dad would notice. I know he probably fears in the back of his mind that it wouldn't last and I know that worries him. He must finally be coming around. Keep doing well.

He's not the only one who is proud of you. You've come so far... and 125 days is a huge accomplishment too.

Amazing what a word of praise from the right person can mean. What a great gift you got today!

I'm glad he gave you that affirmation. We always need that, no matter who we are or how old we get. I'm proud of you!

Nothing like a compliment from your boss to help your day go better. Even if your boss is your dad too...or maybe especially if ;)
hold on to the good strong feelings of accomplishment and be proud of yourself.

Yay! I know as a parent that telling our children that we are proud of them is so much harder than telling them what they've done wrong.
